In this cartoon I first observe Uncle Sam with a big stomach with territories and states names on them showing the abundance of land the U.S. has. The people and objects that are shown are President McKinley, Uncle Sam, James G. Blaine and other political figures that are trying for further expansion. Objects shown are fabrics with words on them showing the different policies and there is also potions for anti-expansion that Uncle Sam is denying. Things that look different in the cartoon that would be in a photograph are that Uncle Sam is very tall and McKinley is very short. The exaggerations and magical potions certainly would not be in a photograph. And also I highly doubt that the president owned a tailoring company. Maybe Blaine offering an anti-expansion policy that was denied shows that America was getting tired of expansion, and that some political figures were pushing for it. I think the intended audience is for younger adults. I say that because it has a lot of exaggerations and colors, but it also isn't that complicated of a cartoon to understand. The issue the cartoon is about is Blain and other political figures pushing for expansion when it was not needed. I think the cartoonist doesn't think America needs to expand anymore, and that why he has shown Uncle Sam with a big belly, showing the abundance of expansion we have already done. The cartoonist has made Blain look kind of creepy giving him a eerie feeling, and puts the audience against him. I wonder why Blain was pushing so hard for expansion, and where he wanted to expand to?
